Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer scares No. 5 Johns Hopkins

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team went toe-to-toe with the fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays but a late goal in the 86th minute allowed the Blue Jays to escape the island with a 2-1 win over the Sea Gulls on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue Jay offense got started early with a goal Aidan Dunphy by Tyler White in just the eighth minute to give Johns Hopkins an early lead.
  • The Sea Gulls would not let the early goal by the Blue Jays affect their play. After earning a free kick just outside the box, Brady Young sent the free kick into the box. After a failed clear attempt by a Blue Jay defender, Sean Barwick gathered the ball and drove a shot into the bottom-right corner to tie the game at one.
  • Both defenses settled into the game and shut both offenses down for the remainder of the first half. The Sea Gulls opened the second half on the attack after Ben Pigg forced a turnover near the box and sent a pass into the box to David Peters. Peters drove a shot that looked like it was going into the back of the net, but a trailing Blue Jay defender made an incredible sliding stop to keep the score tied.
  • In the 65th minute, the Blue Jays looked to break the scoreless tie. A long pass into the box found the head of Jonathan Cui, but a great save by Zach Walega kept the game tied.
  • In the 86th minute, the Blue Jays offense broke through with a Tyler White goal that just went over a leaping Walega that gave Johns Hopkins the late lead.
