Men's Soccer drops C2C match to No. 16 CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team dropped a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) matchup to No. 16 Christopher Newport, 3-0, on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In just the fifth minute, the Sea Gull offense looked to get on the board first. Scott Burns sent a long pass into the box and a Captain defender headed the ball high in the air toward Conner Appleby just outside the box. Appleby sent a one-timer toward the goal, but the ball went right into the arms of the Captains goalkeeper.
  • In the 36th minute the Captain offense looked to break through the Sea Gull defense. After a throw-in, Alex Risko sent a shot off of Skyler McCarthy, but the deflection went right to Jonathon Leiding, who tapped it in to give the Captains the lead.
  • Just seven minutes later, Asher Kuzemka scored a goal assisted by Godfrey Abel to give the Captains a 2-0 lead at the half.
  • The Sea Gulls looked to get back into the game early in the second half. After some great ball movement by the Sea Gulls offense, the connection from Burns and Appleby looked to this time put one in the back of the net. Burns sent a cross over to Appleby and he sent a one-timer towards the net, but once again was denied by the Captains goalkeeper.
  • The Captains added another goal in the 68th minute by Jason LaViola to extend their lead to 3-0.
