SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team endured a tightly-contested sweep at the hands of the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, falling 3-0 (25-23, 28-26, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon at the Maggs Physical Activities Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams danced in lockstep with each other throughout the first set. Down 21-20 late, Jackie Mitchell tied it with a kill, then Jenna Feinauer landed a kill of her own and SU took a 23-21 lead on an error.
- After regrouping during a timeout, the Blue Jays got a kill from Simone Adam and a service ace from Helena Swaak to draw even at 23-23. Alice Yu then landed a kill and Swaak dealt another ace to give JHU a tight 25-23 set victory.
- The Blue Jays netted seven of the first eight points to open the second set, but Salisbury went on a run of their own, using a Mitchell kill to get back within 9-7. It stayed close until the 17-16 mark, at which point JHU peeled off six in a row, riding a Roxy Karrer-Chidinma Onukwugha block to take a 23-16 lead.
- From there Salisbury got back into it with an 8-1 run, fighting off six set points in the process and tying it at 24-24 on a block from Feinauer and Angelina Casserly. After trading the next four points, Yu blasted a kill and Swaak iced the set at 28-26 with another ace.
- The teams engaged in another back-and-forth set throughout the third, with neither side able to string together more than two points until late. A block from Delaney Madsen and Gwen Eustace evened the fixture for Salisbury at 19-19.
- JHU finally put together three straight points on kills from Onukwugha and Simrin Carlsen and an ace from Karrer to go up 22-19, then after an Amanda Chew kill Onukwugha and Adam struck for kills to make it 24-20.
- The Sea Gulls fought off two match points with a Casserly kill and Madsen ace, but Swaak set up Onukwugha for the clinching kill, salting away the set and the match, 25-22.
