Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dolezal's two goals power 2-1 upset win over No. 17 Mary Washington

SALISBURY, Md. – Sophomore Ethan Dolezal led the Salisbury University men's soccer team with both goals in a 2-1 victory over Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) rival, No. 17 Mary Washington, on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles looked to strike first in the 17th minute. Josh Kirkland poked a shot that was headed toward the back of the net, but Joseph Ennas made an impressive defensive play and blocked the shot to keep the game scoreless.
  • After the Eagles' chance to score, the Sea Gulls looked to make the most of their first chance. Ryan Kegley sent a deep ball over to Ethan Dolezal and after some impressive footwork to get past an Eagle defender, Dolezal was one-on-one with the keeper. Dolezal drove a shot into the bottom-left corner to give the Sea Gulls an early lead.
  • In the 61st minute, the Sea Gulls looked to pad their one-goal lead. Brady Young sent a pass over to Sean Barwick in the box. Barwick used great awareness to see a streaking Dolezal sent a pass towards the middle of the box. Dolezal made a move past the last line of defense and sent a shot past the Eagles goalkeeper to push the Sea Gulls lead to 2-0.
  • In the 81st minute, the Eagles had a great chance to get on the board. After a corner kick, the ball found Diego Guzman just out the box. Guzman ripped a shot and Ryan Socks made an impressive save with an Eagle shielding his vision.
  • The Eagles did get on the board two minutes later as Evan Fidler found an open Carter Berg, who ripped a shot into the back of the net to put the Eagles within striking distance with a little under seven minutes remaining in the match. However, the Sea Gull defense stood tall to take the win.
