Men's Soccer celebrates senior day against No. 25 CNU

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer honored its four seniors in its final home match of the 2022 regular season on Saturday. The Sea Gulls dropped a 3-0 decision to the 25th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a strong start for both defenses, the Sea Gulls looked to break into the scoring column in the 27th minute. Sean Barwick sent a blistering shot the went off the goalkeeper's hands and looked to be headed toward the back of the net but the goalie snagged it just before the ball crossed the line.
  • The Captains opened the scoring with Elton Quintanilla sending the corner kick into the box and Ryan Machado-Jones ripped a shot into the bottom-left corner to give the Captains the lead.
  • The Captains would keep the offensive momentum going to start the second half with a goal by Kyle Stenzel from Mason Field to put the Captains up 2-0.
  • In the 61st minute, the Sea Gulls looked to get back into the game with a goal. David Peters received a pass just outside the box and ripped a shot towards the bottom-right corner. An athletic sliding play by the CNU defender slowed the shot down and it went right into the hands of the keeper.
