WILKES-BARRE, Pa. –
Ethan Dolezal netted two second-half goals, including the game-winner in the 89th minute, to allow the Salisbury University men's soccer team to dethrone the King's Monarchs, 2-1, on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 23rd minute, the Sea Gulls gathered possession in the offensive zone and George Fotiou sent a pass across into the box to Ethan Dolezal. Dolezal drove the ball toward the bottom left corner, but the Monarchs' goalkeeper made an incredible kick save to keep the game scoreless.
- After a slow-paced first half, the Monarchs got the attack just a minute into the second half. Justin Decoteau drove a blistering shot from just outside the box and Zach Walega made an impressive diving save to keep the score tied.
- In the 69th minute, the Sea Gulls earned a great chance to get on the board with a corner kick. Bret Dickens sent the corner kick into the box and Joseph Ennas jumped up and headed the ball over to Dolezal. Dolezal slid and knocked the ball past the Monarchs' goalkeeper to give the Sea Gulls the one-goal lead.
- The Monarchs quickly responded with a goal from Philip Permyashkin to even the score at one, in the 73rd minute.
- In the 89th minute, the Sea Gulls looked for one last chance to break the scoreless tie on a corner kick. After the ball was played into the box, Dolezal headed the ball just past the goal line before a King's defender could kick it out and gave the Sea Gulls a 2-1 lead with just a minute remaining in the match.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- The Sea Gulls tallied nine shots with three shots on goal.
- Ethan Dolezal led the Sea Gulls with two goals. It was Dolezal's first multi-goal game of his career.
- Joseph Ennas and Bret Dickens each tallied an assist.
- The Sea Gulls took six corner kicks.
- Zach Walega started in net and made two saves.
KING'S GAME NOTES
- The Monarchs notched 13 shots with three on net.
- Philip Permyashkin scored the lone goal for the Monarchs.
- The Monarchs earned five corner kicks.
- Jake Forst started in net and tallied a save.
