The Rundown

The top-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team begins it run to the NCAA Championship on Saturday, Nov. 12. The road to Rowan begins in the NCAA Second Round against 12th-ranked York. The game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.

  • No. 1 Salisbury finished the regular season 17-0 overall and captured its fourth consecutive and 24th conference championship in program history with a 2-0 victory over the then-17th-ranked CNU Captains on Saturday, Nov. 5
  • Salisbury is one of two undefeated teams in all of NCAA Field Hockey. Division I, North Carolina, is also 17-0 entering the NCAA Championships.
  • The Sea Gulls collected three C2C major awards. Allie Davis was honored as the C2C Player of the Year. McKenna Horner was tabbed as the C2C Rookie of the Year. Head coach Dawn Chamberlin and her staff were picked as the C2C Coaching Staff of the Year.
  • Davis, Horner, McKenzie Mitchell, Mack Dinopoulos, Christine Goetz, Molly Reardon, Isabel Larrabee and Mackenzie Peacock each earned spots on the All-C2C First Team.
  • No. 12 York earned its first NCAA Tournament victory with a 4-2 win over DeSales on Wednesday.
  • The Spartans will enter Saturday's matchup with a 16-5 record and a 7-1 record in the MAC Commonwealth. The team received an at-large bid into the tournament after falling to Messiah, 2-0, in the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday, Nov. 5.
  • A school record eight Spartans were named to the All-MAC Commonwealth team. York placed a school-record five Spartans on the first team as forward Katie Martino, midfielders Riley Buschert and Mya Gerena, defender Sara Pique, and goalie Belle Fields earned first-team honors. Freshman forward Kat Knox was a second team honoree while senior Hannah Huffman and Libby Wild were an honorable mention pick for York. Head coach Katie Fost was named the league's Coach of the Year.
  • Saturday's contest will be the 39th meeting between the two former Capital Athletic Conference foes. After York won the first-ever matchup in 1982, Salisbury has won 38 straight games against York.
  • York and Salisbury squared off on Oct. 5 with the Sea Gulls outlasting the Spartans. 1-0, in a back-and-forth defensive struggle. Kaitlyn DeModna scored the lone goal in the contest in the 13th minute off an assist by Julia Frankis.
  • Salisbury tallied 19 corners in the game.
  • The winner of the Salisbury/York matchup will face off with the winner of the Williams/Washington & Lee contest on Sunday, Nov. 13 in the regional final.
  • The game is set to push back at 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium with the winner advancing to championship weekend at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. on Friday and Sunday, November 18 and 20, at Richard Wackar Stadium at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. Semifinals will be played at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Eastern time, Friday, Nov. 18, with the championship game being played at 1 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday, Nov. 20.
