SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team's stellar 2022 season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament with a 2-0 defeat to the No. 8 Williams Ephs on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Salisbury defense stood tall in the early goings of the game. In the fifth minute, Shea van den Broek put two shots toward the goal. The first shot was rejected by Mackenzie Peacock while the second one was turned away by the SU defense.
  • McKenna Horner had a good look at goal in the 10th minute of the contest. Horner broke through the defense and put in a good slap shot but the ball went just wide of the cage.
  • Salisbury had another chance at goal in the 21st minute of the game. Smart passes in the circle led to Allie Davis getting a rip at the cage but once again the ball scooted past the far post and out of play.
  • Williams brought the pressure throughout the third quarter and finally broke through the Salisbury defense in the 41st minute. Meaghan Boehm's initial shot was saved by Hannah Johnson but the rebound was put away by Molly Hellman.
  • Davis looked the tie the game in the 44th minute on a penalty corner play but Carson Stephenson stopped the shot and kept the Williams lead intact.
  • Salisbury was looking to get the ball in its half to find the equalizer throughout the fourth quarter but Williams took advantage of a turnover in the midfield and turned it into the insurance needed to put away the Sea Gulls in the game's final minute. Hellman put a shot towards cage and the ball was redirected by Kiki Higgins.
