Women’s Soccer dominates Pratt, 11-0, to open C2C Tournament

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The fourth-seeded Salisbury University women's soccer team dominated the fifth-seeded Pratt Cannoneers, 11-0, in the first round of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament hosted by Christopher Newport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury wasted no time getting on the board. In just the first minute of the match, Kasey Lamb sent a free kick booming towards the goal from 50 yards out. The ball took a bounce over the Pratt goalkeeper and into the net to give the Sea Gulls an early lead.
  • Salisbury did not let up the pressure and tallied four more goals from four different players to send a 5-0 advantage into halftime.
  • Maia Burger netted the sixth goal for Salisbury after she fielded a perfect through ball from Anna Buonocore in the 50th minute.
  • Pratt threatened in the 61st minute with its first shot on goal of the match but Riley Pinato was able to scoop up the save.
  • The Sea Gulls continued to dominate possession and scored five more goals in the second half, with Kristen Ging closing out the scoring in the 83rd minute.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury outshot Pratt, 44-3, with 27 shots on target compared to the Cannoneers' three.
  • The Sea Gull defense did not allow a shot in the first half.
  • Nine different Sea Gulls scored during the match. Ashley Pantano and Kristen Ging each scored twice.
  • Lissette Carneiro and Kyra Veenema each tallied two assists.
  • Claire Vollmer, Maia Burger and Sarah Remp each scored their first collegiate goals.
  • Autumn Dougherty's goal in the 20th minute was the 24th of her career which put her seventh in program history. Her 54 career points are now 10th all-time in SU women's soccer history.
  • Riley Pinato earned the shutout win and tallied three saves in goal.
PRATT GAME NOTES
  • Three different Cannoneers put shots on target.
  • Emma Gaspari tallied 15 saves in goal.
UP NEXT
  • The fourth-seeded Sea Gulls will face off with hosts and top-seeded Christopher Newport tomorrow Friday, Nov. 4 in the semifinals of the C2C Tournament.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Newport News, Va. at Captains Field.
