Posner's career day pushes No. 1/2 Men's Lacrosse past No. 20 Stevens, 15-5

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 1/2 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team pulled off another top-20 win with a 15-5 victory over the 20th-ranked Stevens Ducks on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury started the game strong with an early goal from Jack Dowd in the opening minute. Stevens quickly answered with a goal from Ryan Caplis a minute later.
  • The Sea Gulls regained the lead after Luke Nestor found Logan Posner in front of the net. Another Posner goal and a pair of Cross Ferrara goals pushed the Sea Gull lead to four, 5-1, midway through the opening frame.
  • Stevens responded with a Mikey Whiteside goal at the 7:18 mark of the first before Salisbury went on a three-goal run. Nestor, Josh Rotman and a man-up goal from Joe Carozza put Salisbury up 8-1.
  • Stevens closed the quarter with a Tyler Ryan goal just before the buzzer that reduced the Ducks deficit to six, 8-2, at the first-quarter break.
  • Both teams jockeyed for scoring opportunities in the second and third quarters. Posner tallied three goals, including a pair of goals in the second quarter, to extend Salisbury's lead to 11-4 after three quarters.
  • The Sea Gulls opened the fourth with two Ferrara goals to push their lead up to nine, 13-4.
  • The Ducks added another goal from Trevor Carroll before the Sea Gulls put the game on ice with back-to-back goals in the final six minutes of the game. Posner's tallied his sixth goal of the day on a Brice Bromwell assist while Joey Corbett added a man-down from an outlet pass from Jackson Woodward that gave the Sea Gulls a commanding 10 goal lead late.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Logan Posner led the Sea Gulls with a career-high six goals and added an assist. Posner's previous career-high was a hat trick against Illinois Wesleyan in the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2021.
  • Cross Ferrara added in four goals and scooped up three ground balls.
  • Ham McPartland and Eoghan Sweeney each won seven faceoffs. McPartland scooped up a game-high seven ground balls.
  • Zack Timmons caused a game-high three turnovers
  • Z.J. Shahin earned the win with a season-best eight saves for the Sea Gulls.
  • The Sea Gulls went 15-of-24 in faceoffs.

STEVENS GAME NOTES

  • Michael Burns, Trevor Carroll, Mikey Whiteside, Tyler Ryan, and Ryan Caplis each scored a goal for the Ducks
  • David Bendis forced a pair of turnovers.
  • Jake Zeyher started in net for the Ducks. Cooper Foote came in relief and recorded 10 saves.

  • Salisbury looks to avenge its only 2021 regular-season loss against No. 4/6 Lynchburg on Saturday, March 6 at Sea Gull Stadium.
  • Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. with coverage on the Sea Gull Sports Network (SGSN) beginning at 12:45 p.m.
