No. 1/2 Men's Lacrosse bulldozes No. 4/6 Lynchburg, 15-6

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 1/2 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team avenged its lone 2021 regular-season loss with a commanding 15-6 win over the No. 4/6 Lynchburg Hornets on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After seven scoreless minutes, the Hornets got the scoring going with an early goal from Jake Rust.
  • The Sea Gulls answered just a minute later with a Cross Ferrara goal followed by an Isaac Thrasher goal from Jack Dowd to give the Sea Gulls its first lead, 2-1.
  • Lynchburg tied the game at two with a tally from Dylan Wolfe in the 11th minute of the contest.
  • Thrasher added his second goal of the quarter from a Brice Bromwell assist to put the Sea Gulls back up in front, 3-2. In the closing seconds of the quarter, Riley Mitchell found the back of the net for the Hornets to tie the game back up at three.
  • The second quarter was all Sea Gulls. Jarrett Bromwell scored two goals to open the second. A man-up goal by Joe Carozza and two Dowd goals pushed the Sea Gull lead to 8-3 at the half.
  • Salisbury continued its onslaught with a three-goal run to start the second half. Thrasher and Jarrett Bromwell's hat tricks sandwiched a Ferrara score would extend the Salisbury lead to 11-3 midway through the third.
  • Lynchburg ended its 22-plus scoring drought with a Ryan Kenney goal late in the third quarter.
  • The Sea Gulls crushed any momentum from the Hornets with four unanswered goals, highlighted by a pair of Thrasher goals to give the Sea Gulls a 15-4 lead with five minutes left in the game.
  • The Hornets added two late goals from Kenney and a man-up goal from Josiah Martin to finish out the scoring.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Isaac Thrasher led the Sea Gulls with a career-high eight points. Thrasher scored a career-best five goals and tied his career-high with three assists. Thrasher's previous career-high was a four-goal performance earlier this season against Scranton on Feb. 19.
  • Jarrett Bromwell added four goals and caused two turnovers.
  • Jack Dowd dished out three assists and scored a pair of goals.  
  • Cross Ferrara added in two goals for the Sea Gulls.
  • The Sea Gulls went 14-of-24 in faceoffs. Eoghan Sweeney won eight faceoffs and Ham McPartland added in six faceoff wins.
  • John DeFazio, Thomas Ballard and the rest of the Salisbury defense wreaked havoc on Lynchburg. DeFazio caused a career-high five turnovers and scooped up five ground balls. Ballard caused four Lynchburg errors to also set a career mark.
  • Z.J. Shahin earned the win with a season-best nine saves for the Sea Gulls.

LYNCHBURG GAME NOTES

  • Ryan Kenney led the Hornets with two goals and an assist.
  • Brett Rogers and Tyler Kuni scooped up a team-high four ground balls each.
  • Dylan Shuster caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Patrick Moore started in net for the Hornets with 15 saves.

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury hosts the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets on Sunday, March 6.
  • Opening faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. with coverage on the Sea Gull Sports Network (SGSN) beginning at 1:45 p.m.
