Ferrara scores 200th goal in 22-11 win over Randolph-Macon

SALISBURY, Md. – A fast start helped the No. 1/2 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team cruised to a 22-11 win over the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Sea Gulls offense started the game on fire opening with an 8-0 run. Cross Ferrara opened the game with a goal in the first minute. Isaac Thrasher also tallied two goals during the run while Brice Bromwell finished the run with his first career goal with just under five minutes left in the first.
  • The Yellow Jackets ended the run with a goal from Jack Smith but Logan Posner put the Sea Gulls back up by eight with a goal from Brice Bromwell that allowed the maroon and gold to close out the quarter with a 9-1 lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals from Brandon Smith to cut the Sea Gull lead to 9-3.
  • The Sea Gulls would answer the two early Yellow Jackets goals with a 5-1 run to close the half. The run started with Thrasher's third goal of the day and finished with another Thrasher goal from Jack Dowd with just 12 seconds remaining in the half.
  • Salisbury continued the momentum from the late goal at the end of the half with another Thrasher goal from Jarrett Bromwell and two more Ferrara goals. The second Ferrara goal pushed him to third all-time in goals in Salisbury history.
  • Kevin Andrews, Duncan O'Brian and Jack Averna each scored a goal to answer the Sea Gulls' quick start in the third to make the score, 17-7.
  • The Sea Gulls would tack on three more goals to answer the small Yellow Jacket run with Jackson Woodward scoring his first goal of the season to start the run.  
  • The fourth quarter started with back-to-back Sea Gull goals a minute apart from Jarrett Bromwell and Matthew Clibanoff to extend the SU lead to 22-8 in the early parts of the fourth.
  • The Yellow Jackets finished the game on a three-goal run to close out the scoring.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Cross Ferrara led the Sea Gulls with seven points on five goals and two assists. Ferrara eclipsed the 200-goal mark and moved to third all-time in career goals with 202. Ferrara passed Dan Boyer '06 (198), Carson Kalama '17 (200) and Sam Bradman '12 (201) during the game.
  • Isaac Thrasher, Jarrett Bromwell, and Logan Posner each tallied six points. Thrasher scored five goals and tallied an assist. Jarrett Bromwell scored four goals and added in two assists. Posner registered a hat-trick and dished out three assists
  • Jack Dowd dished out four assists.  
  • The Sea Gulls went 28-37 in faceoffs. Ham McPartland won 19-of-20 faceoffs with 17 ground balls. Eoghan Sweeney added in five faceoff wins with four ground balls.
  • John DeFazio led the Sea Gull defense with three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Jackson Woodward, Cross Ferrara, and Braden Glushakow each caused a pair of turnovers.  
  • Z.J. Shahin earned the win with four saves for the Sea Gulls.

 

RANDOLPH-MACON GAME NOTES

  • Jack Smith and Jack Averna each tallied a hat-trick for the Yellow Jackets. Brandon Smith added in two goals
  • Scott Ruelle led the Yellow Jacket defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls
  • Brandon Smith and Harris Archer led the team with four ground balls each.
  • Gage Turner started in net for the Yellow Jackets with 12 saves.

  • Salisbury hosts the Ohio Northern Polar Bears under the lights at Sea Gull Stadium, Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m.
