Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – In the battle of the top two teams in Division III lacrosse, the top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team stumbled on the road to the second-ranked Christopher Newport Captains, 17-7, in a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) showdown.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Salisbury got the scoring starting in the third minute of the game with a Brice Bromwell goal that got past the CNU keeper on an assist from Jack Dowd.
- CNU took the lead on a quick two-goal run from Colby Auslander and Dylan Rice.
- The Sea Gulls quickly answered with a goal from Charlie White to tie the game at two.
- The Captains finished the first quarter on a four-goal run highlighted by two goals from Andrew Cook to take the 6-2 lead at the end of one.
- The Sea Gulls started the second quarter with a goal from Jarrett Bromwell to cut the deficit to three, 6-3. After another Captain goal, the Sea Gulls scored two straight goals from Cross Ferrara and Dowd to cut the CNU lead to 7-5 at the half.
- CNU started to pull away from Salisbury with a three-goal run to start the second half to extend the lead to 10-5, four minutes into the third quarter
- Logan Posner put away a man-up goal to trim the CNU lead, 10-6, with eight minutes left in the third quarter.
- Right before the end of the third, Dylan Rice put away a buzzer-beater to push the CNU lead to 11-6.
- The two teams traded goals to start the fourth quarter with Isaac Thrasher scoring three minutes into the fourth. CNU kept Salisbury at bay with a five-goal run to end the game.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- Jack Dowd led the Sea Gulls with three points on a goal and two assists.
- Logan Posner and Jarrett Bromwell each finished with a goal and an assist.
- The Sea Gulls finished 9-of-27 in faceoffs. Ham McPartland went 8-of-24 with three ground balls.
- John DeFazio led the defense with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Z.J. Shahin made a career-high 15 saves in the loss.
CNU GAME NOTES
- Coby Auslander, Alex Brendes and Andrew Cook each tallied four points.
- Dylan Rice scored a hat trick.
- The Captains went 18-for-27 in faceoffs.
- Phoenix Hines and Max Wayne led the Captain defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls each.
- Zac Hanway earned the win for the Captains with eight saves.

- Salisbury will travel to Radnor, Pa. to take on No. 14 Cabrini Cavaliers on Friday, April 22.
- Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
