HOW WE GOT HERE
- Second-seeded Salisbury emerged victorious from the Granville, Ohio Regional, going 4-1 over the four-day tournament from May 20-23 to win its seventh regional title in program history.
- After beating William Paterson 10-1 on Friday, the Sea Gulls fell to 13th-ranked host Denison 2-0 on Sunday before rebounding to eliminate WPU 17-3 later in the day. Needing to win twice in the championship round on Monday, SU bested the Big Red 4-2 and 3-1 to advance to the Salisbury Super Regional.
- Kavi Caster delivered a mammoth regional at the plate, batting .400 with a double, three home runs, eight RBIs, six runs scored and three stolen bases in five games. The Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Player of the Year also made a diving catch in center field to preserve a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth of the clinching game against Denison.
- Stephen Rice also broke out at the plate in Granville, batting .421 with two homers, five RBIs and six runs scored in five games.
- Jimmy Adkins was the alpha and the omega on the mound for Salisbury, throwing his team's first and last pitches in Granville. The C2C Pitcher of the Year struck out 10 batters over eight one-run innings to beat WPU on Friday. On Monday Adkins saved both games in the championship round against Denison, retiring all seven batters he faced that afternoon.
- Sea Gull pitching allowed just nine runs (six earned) over 44 innings at the Granville Regional, lowering their Division III-best team ERA to 2.52.
- Salisbury is playing NCAA Tournament games at home for the first time since hosting the Salisbury Regional in 2019.
HOW THEY GOT HERE
- The College of Wooster earned an at-large bid out of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) to make its 32nd NCAA Baseball Championship appearance in program history. Only three programs have appeared in the Division III Tournament more often than Wooster.
- The Fighting Scots earned the second seed at the Alton, Ill. Regional. After giving up a ninth-inning lead in an opening-game 12-7 loss to Bethel, Wooster blasted Crown 21-3 before eliminating hosts Webster 4-3 in walk-off fashion to advance to the final round. The Scots then vanquished Bethel 11-8 and 11-6 to claim their eighth regional title.
- Offensive prowess is the name of the game for Wooster. Shortstop Tyler Chumita ranks third nationally with a program-record 80 RBIs; the NCAC Player of the Year enters the Super Regional batting .383 with 21 extra-base hits and a 1.024 OPS.
- Outfielder Ben Gbur has just as well-rounded a season at the plate, slashing .363/.443/.679 with 21 doubles, 14 home runs, 50 RBIs, 79 runs scored and 24 stolen bases.
- Southpaw Michael Reardon anchors the Scot pitching staff, posting a 6-6 record and 4.91 ERA over a team-high 73.1 innings. Right-hander Corey Knauf has two complete games in nine starts and struck out 15 batters in a win against Williams College on March 25, the most whiffs in a game for a Wooster pitcher since 1944.
