CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Salisbury men's soccer team opened the 2022 season with a scoreless battle at Washington (Md.) on Thursday night at Kibler Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sea Gull offense got a great opportunity to break the scoreless tie in the 30th minute. After a long goal kick from Ryan Socks, Ethan Dolezal gathered the ball and ripped a bouncing shot towards the bottom right corner, but it was saved by Anthony Pinto.
- The Shoremen earned their best opportunity in the first half with a free kick after a Salisbury foul. On the free kick, Harrison Malone sent a high shot that was batted away by Socks, but the Shoremen gathered the loose ball and sent a shot right in front of the net that Socks once again made an impressive sliding save to keep the score tied.
- In the 51st minute the Shoremen earned another free kick opportunity after a Sea Gulls foul. Ben Strine took the free kick and sent a shot towards the bottom left corner, but Socks made an incredible diving save to keep the game scoreless.
- Just a few minutes later, the Sea Gulls got a great oppurtunity with a one-timer shot from Brady Young that went right into the Shoremen goalkeeper's hands.
- The Sea Gulls in the 63rd minute had an amazing opportunity to break the scoreless tie. Ryan Kegley sent a free kick into the box and after the ball bounced off a few defenders, Alex Floyd jumped up and headed the ball high just over the crossbar and the game remained tied at zero.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- The Sea Gulls tallied 10 shots with three shots on goal.
- Brady Young led the Sea Gulls with three shots, with one being on net.
- Ryan Socks drew the start in goal, collected three saves and earned the shutout.
WASHINGTON GAME NOTES
- The Shoremen notched 13 shots with three being on net.
- The Shoremen had three corner kicks compared to the one from Salisbury.
- Anthony Pinto started in net and recorded three saves.
UP NEXT
- Salisbury hosts the Hornets of Shenandoah University in game one of the Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 3.
- Opening kickoff from Sea Gull Soccer Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
