Men’s Soccer draws even with Rutgers-Newark at Seahawk Classic

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders to open the two-day Seahawk Classic at St. Mary's on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Skylar McCarthy showed out early on with back-to-back saves in the first minute of the game.
  • McCarthy made another stop on a chance in the 22nd minute of the contest on a Franco Cantania shot.
  • Both teams traded goal-scoring chances early on in the second half. Owen Peters took a shot goalwards in the 63rd minute but the bottom right shot was saved by Christian Andrach.
  • Adrian Gonzalez had a shot in the 70th minute but was turned away by Andrach.
  • Salisbury had one more shot to break to deadlock in the closing moments of the game. In the 85th minute, Stephen Welsh ripped a shot towards the top right of the goal but it was saved by Andrach.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury recorded 14 shots with four on target.
  • Skylar McCarthy made five saves in goal for the Sea Gulls.
  • Ryan Kegley had three shots and one on goal.
RUTGERS-NEWARK GAME NOTES
  • Franco Cantania had a game-high eight shots for Rutgers-Newark.
  • As a team, the Scarlet Raiders tallied 15 shots with five on goal.
  • Christian Andrach made four saves.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls conclude the Seahawk Classic on Sunday against the TCNJ Lions.
  • The match is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start in St. Mary's City. This time has been moved up from the original 2 p.m. start time due to inclement weather in the forecast.
