Dougherty, Pantano net pair of goals in 6-1 win over Mount St. Mary

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer coasted past the visiting Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) Knights, 6-1, in the opening match of the SU Women's Soccer Classic on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Autumn Dougherty broke the match open in just the first minute of the match after she slipped away from her defender on the Sea Gulls' first possession and deposited her shot into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.
  • In the seventh minute, Alex Jankowski ripped a cross to a wide-open Dougherty who knocked the ball in for her second goal of the day.
  • Both teams jostled for possession for several minutes before Kyla Holt used a deep pass to push past the Knights' backline and ripped a shot past the keeper to give Salisbury a three-goal cushion with just under 20 minutes left in the first half.
  • With the clock winding down in the first period, the Sea Gulls had another breakaway goal. This time, Ashley Pantano got behind the defense and made it a four-goal game going into halftime.
  • Pantano brought Salisbury's lead to five in the 62nd minute after teammate Lissette Carneiro found her wide open by the goal.
  • The Knights got on the board in the 66th minute from a long bomb by Emma Mihale.
