Second-half surge powers Women’s Soccer past Washington, 3-1

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Three second-half goals powered the Salisbury University women's soccer team in a 3-1 road win over its Eastern Shore rival, Washington College, on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half was a tremendous defensive effort from both teams with possession going back-and-forth the entire period.
  • Salisbury's best chance came in the 25th minute when Mallory Pasco ripped a shot that just tipped off the keeper's gloves to keep the match scoreless.
  • Washington broke the tie in the 38th minute after Ellen Daly converted a penalty kick to put the Shorewomen up, 1-0, going into halftime.
  • Right out of halftime, Lissette Carneiro took a shot from 25 yards out that went through the keeper's hands to tie the game at one in the 47th minute.
  • Autumn Dougherty put the Sea Gulls ahead with a shot that got past the keeper, bounced off the posts and into the goal to make it a 2-1 game with 38 minutes left to play.
  • In the 73rd minute, Autumn Conway came up big with a diving save on a one-on-one after a breakaway by Washington's Maddy Gaydon.
  • Seconds later, Conway made another terrific save on a shot from just five yards out to preserve the Sea Gull lead.
  • After a Washington foul, Dougherty used the free kick to net her second goal of the day from about 20 yards out to give SU insurance in the 76th minute.
  • The Shorewomen threatened in the final few minutes of the match, but the game ended with a final score of 3-1.
