Spelman’s late score lifts Women’s Soccer over Catholic, 2-1

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury senior Lauren Spelman capped off another second-half comeback for the Salisbury University women's soccer team in it's 2-1 victory over Catholic on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Catholic scored first in the 20th minute after Payton Hardy corralled a loose ball in front of the goal and shot it past the keeper.
  • Both teams battled hard for possession for the next several minutes.
  • The Sea Gulls had an opportunity in the 38th minute after Anna Dimitriades slipped through the defense and ripped a one-timer, but the Cardinals keeper was able to swallow it up and preserve Catholic's lead heading into halftime.
  • Salisbury continued to apply pressure in the second-half and finally broke through in the 73rd minute after Ashley Pantano chipped a cross in to Katy Poltrack, who ripped a shot past the keeper to tie the game at one.
  • Salisbury was able to maintain possession for the majority of the half and in the 84th minute, Lauren Spelman bombed a shot from outside the box over the leaping keeper and into the net to give the Sea Gulls the lead.
