Men's Soccer falls at York

YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team dropped a road game, 3-0, to the York Spartans under the lights on Wednesday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 15th minute, the Spartans offense got on the board after Matt Zeiders sent a long ball into the box and Noah Roche sent a sliding shot into the bottom right corner. 
  • In the 34th minute, the Sea Gulls got an excellent opportunity to tie the game on a corner kick. Ben Pigg sent the cross into the box where Brady Young headed the ball towards the bottom right corner, but a Spartan defender blocked it to prevent a Sea Gull goal.
  • In the 41st minute, the Spartans got on the board again after Cole Kendra sent a free kick into the box and Drew Ruehlicke headed the ball into the bottom left corner.
  • After the half, the Sea Gull offense had a great opportunity to pull within a goal. David Peters sent a pass into the box to a wide-open Sean Barwick with only the goalkeeper to beat. Barwick sent a strike towards the net, but bounced off the crossbar.
  • In the 55th minute, the Spartans netted the final tally of the game on a goal by Jack Mizelfelt by Luke Nall.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • The Sea Gulls tallied 13 shots with eight shots on goal.
  • Conner Appleby and Adrian Gonzalez led the Sea Gulls with two shots on goal each.
  • The Sea Gulls had four corner kicks.
  • Skyler McCarthy drew the start in goal and collected two saves. Ryan Socks started the second half in net and made one save.
YORK GAME NOTES
  • The Spartans notched 12 shots with six being on net.
  • The Spartans tallied four corner kicks.
  • Jack Mitzelfelt, Noah Roche and Drew Ruehlicke scored the goals for the Spartans.
  • Bradly Bixler tallied eight saves.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury travels to Langhorne, Pa. to finish off its five-game road trip against the Highlanders of Cairn University on Saturday, Sept. 24.
  • Opening kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
