Women’s Soccer victims of late comeback by DeSales

SALISBURY, Md. – Two early goals weren't enough as the Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to the DeSales Bulldogs on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Autumn Conway was tested early in goal as she saved back-to-back shots in the seventh minute by Meagan Byrne and Meghan Foley.
  • Zakiyyah McMillan got the scoring going in the 15th minute as she dribbled through the DeSales defense and blasted a shot from just outside the box past a diving keeper for the goal.
  • 10 minutes later, Kyla Holt passed the ball from the wing to Katy Poltrack in the middle of the attacking zone. Poltrack's left-footed shot curled off the fingertips of the DeSales' keeper and across the goal line to double SU's lead, 2-0.
  • DeSales got on the board in the 30th minute. A through ball by Kerrigan de Meij connected with Emma Ribiero on a run and scored near post.
  • In the closing stages of the first half, a corner kick by Cassidy Klein deflected off an SU defender and into the back of the net to tie the game at two just before halftime.
  • DeSales received a penalty kick in the 65th minute. Tori Harnett's shot deflected off the post to keep the game level.
  • Conway was pressured in the 71st minute after a loose ball got away from her grasp in front of the cage but she was fouled after making the save to keep the game tied at two.
  • DeSales got another penalty kick in the 84th minute. Sam Monteforte stepped up the spot and gave the Bulldogs the one-goal lead.
  • Holt and Lauren Spelman had a good chance to tie the game in the 87th minute. Holt's free-kick was saved by a diving keeper and Spelman's rebound also found the keeper.
