Gonzalez, Barwick score against St. Mary's

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team's late comeback attempt fell short as the St. Mary's Seahawks escaped the Eastern Shore with a 3-2 win on Wednesday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After some back-and-forth play, the Sea Gull offense took the lead in the 29th minute. Ryan Kegley sent a corner kick into the box. The ball rolled right to the foot of Adrian Gonzalez and into the back of the net to give the Sea Gulls a 1-0 lead.
  • The Seahawks struggled in the first half, but broke out for two goals in a span of two minutes by Thomas Williamson in the 58th minute and Elliot Hodges in the 60th minute.
  • In the 80th minute, the Seahawks looked to put the game away with the second goal of the day from Thomas Williamson to put St. Mary's up, 3-1.
  • The Sea Gulls would not go down without a fight. In the 80th minute, Scott Burns sent a high pass inside the box and Sean Barwick jumped up and headed the ball past the Seahawk goalie to put the Sea Gulls down by one.
  • In the 88th minute, Kegley sent another ball into the box and Joseph Ennas headed the ball goalwards but was saved by the Seahawk goalkeeper.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • The Sea Gulls tallied 23 shots with seven shots on goal.
  • Sean Barwick and Adrian Gonzalez each scored their first goals of the season.
  • Barwick led the Sea Gulls with four shots, including two shots on goal.
  • The Sea Gulls had seven corner kicks to the Seahawks three.
  • Ryan Socks started in net and made two saves.
ST. MARY'S GAME NOTES
  • The Seahawks notched seven shots with five being on net.
  • Thomas Williamson led the Seahawks with three shots, with all three shots on goal.
  • Matthew Kopsidas started in net and tallied five saves.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury travels to Fredericksburg, Va. to take on Mary Washington to kick off Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 1.
  • Opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
