Craig collects fifth double-double of season against Marymount

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team dropped its midweek matchup with the Marymount Saints, 69-59, at home on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A three-point jump shot by Cameron Heard at the 16:11 mark gave the Sea Gulls an early 6-4 lead.
  • Marymount responded with a 13-2 run to go up 17-8 with just under nine minutes to go in the half.
  • Down by seven, 27-20, Brendan Davis knocked down a tough jumper and Brandon Craig made back-to-back layups to cut the lead down to one, 27-26, with 3:02 remaining in the period.
  • The Saints closed out the half with a 9-0 run to send the teams into halftime with a score of 36-26.
  • Salisbury opened the second half with a 9-2 run that was capped off by back-to-back jumpers from Davis to bring the lead down to three, 38-35, with 16:12 to play.
  • A few minutes later, a 12-2 run gave Marymount its largest lead of the day, 53-40, with 10:22 left in the game.
  • A driving dunk by Sean Carr stifled the Saints' momentum. After some back-and-forth for the next few minutes, the Sea Gulls were within nine, 59-50, with 5:16 remaining.
  • Both teams added a few more baskets in the closing moments of the game, but the Sea Gulls could not overcome the lead and the game finished with a final score of 69-59.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury struggled from the floor. The team shot 38.3 percent (23-for-60) from the field and 30.8 percent (4-for-13) from three.
  • Brandon Craig registered his fifth double-double of the season after he scored a game-high 22 points and hauled in 13 rebounds. He also added three blocks on the night.
  • Brendan Davis and Cameron Heard each scored 10 points. Davis dished out a team-high four assists and Heard grabbed four rebounds.
  • Jordan Oates scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.
MARYMOUNT GAME NOTES
  • Marymount shot 47.4 percent (27-for-57) from the floor, including 42.9 percent (9-for-21) from three-point range.
  • Marcus Stubbs led the Saints with 19 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
  • Wyatt Hockenberry scored 18 points.
  • Isaac Harris scored six points, dished out eight assists, and grabbed seven boards.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls open Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) play on the road against No. 4 Christopher Newport on Saturday, Jan. 28.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Newport News, Va.
