Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball waltzes past Eastern, 67-51

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team got off to a fast start and put the game to bed late at the free throw line, waltzing past the Eastern Eagles, 67-51, on Wednesday night at EU Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After surrendering the game's first bucket, Alex Bull tied it with a layup, then Tori Rumbaugh and Bull knocked down back-to-back threes to give the Sea Gulls an 8-2 advantage at the 6:38 mark of the first quarter. The Eagles answered with the next five to get within one, but Rumbaugh drained another from deep to make it 11-7.
  • The teams traded jumpers, then after Kolby Brown hit one-of-two at the line, Nadia Bullock drove in for a fastbreak basket. Ashlynn Burrows then sank a layup in the final seconds of the period, boosting the SU lead to 18-9 after one.
  • Much like in the first, Salisbury ceded the first basket of the second quarter before going on a big run. Abby Wilkinson hit three-of-four from the charity stripe, then Emily Dilger chipped in back-to-back buckets to make it a 7-0 run and a 25-11 lead at the 7:29 mark.
  • After EU broke up the surge with a free throw, Hailey Ader, Brown and Sym Deloatch sank layups, ultimately expanding the Sea Gull to 31-12. The Eagles countered with a 6-0 run of their own, but Burrows broke it up with a jumper, then Rumbaugh drilled her third trey of the first half to make it 36-18 at the break.
  • The teams traded tallies early in the third quarter with EU getting as close as 43-28 on a three by Wynter Bess at the 5:53 mark. Dilger and Brown answered with back-to-back jays to get it back to 47-28, and SU went up by as many as 21 before finishing the third on a 19-point margin at 52-33.
  • The Eagles opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run, including six from Taryn Woodson, to get back within 52-40 at the 6:16 mark. Salisbury got five straight back on three foul shots and a Rumbaugh jumper, but EU nibbled off six more to make it 57-46 with 1:57 to go.
  • With the score 59-48 inside the final minute, Eastern was assessed several technical fouls that allowed the Sea Gulls to ice the game at the foul line. Rumbaugh and Wilkinson combined to make eight of the nine free throws, putting a lid on a 67-51 Salisbury victory.
