Women’s Basketball tripped up at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team endured a shaky second quarter on the way to a 65-52 loss to the Shenandoah Hornets on Wednesday night at the Wilkins Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tori Rumbaugh hit a three-pointer in the game's first minute to give the Sea Gulls a quick 3-2 lead. The Hornets answered with a pair of buckets, but Nadia Bullock responded with her own triple to tie it at 6-6 at the 8:01 mark of the first quarter.
  • From there Shenandoah went on a 7-1 run, taking a 13-7 lead after a Terese Greene layup with 6:35 to go. After Emily Dilger broke up the run with a layup, the Hornets netted the next six to go up 19-9. A three from Kolby Brown and two Kayla Nieberlein free throws cut the Salisbury deficit in half to 19-14 by the end of the first.
  • Ashlynn Burrows opened the second quarter with a jumper, then after Gabby Krystofiak put in her own jay Bullock drained another from deep, bringing the Sea Gulls back within 21-19 at the 8:41 mark.
  • At that point Shenandoah turned on the jets, with Madisen Kimble's three sparking a 17-0 run over the next six minutes. The Hornets ultimately closed out the second on a 21-3 push, with a Shawnise Campbell layup in the final minute punctuating a 42-22 halftime advantage.
  • After falling behind 48-24 early in the third quarter, Alex Bull got the Sea Gulls back on their feet with a trey. Hailey Ader closed out the 8-4 push with a three-point play at the 5:47 mark that made it 52-32.
  • Salisbury shaved the deficit under 20 with a pair of Brown foul shots to make it 57-38. Shenandoah answered with the final three of the period to take a 60-38 lead into the fourth.
  • The Sea Gulls tightened up their defense en route to outscoring Shenandoah 14-5 in the fourth quarter. Bullock started things off with a three, then after the Hornets' only field goal of the period Dilger chipped in back-to-back layups to make it 62-45 with 6:00 to go.
  • Trailing 65-48 inside the final three minutes, Ainsley Raybold and Dilger each knocked down jumpers to make it a 13-point final margin at 65-52.
