Men’s Soccer stumbles in road duel with Johns Hopkins, 2-0

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon at Homewood Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It took 10 minutes for the hosts to record the first shot of the game, one they followed by outshooting Salisbury 4-1 over the next 15 minutes.
  • In the 27th minute, Griffin Meyer looked in a pass from Logan Falzarano and placed it in the lower left corner to put the Blue Jays ahead, 1-0.
  • Salisbury earned a corner and forced a save from the JHU net-minder before intermission, but the score held fast at 1-0.
  • Each side rattled off a shot in the first six minutes of the second period before the Blue Jays fired off five straight spanning the next 14 minutes of play, one that was blocked and another handled by Mason Jones.
  • Johns Hopkins earned a look from the spot in the 77th minute and Francis Meyer converted, stretching the margin to 2-0.
  • SU tallied two more shots before the game's conclusion, but neither proved sufficient to alter the final score.

  • Griffin Meyer netted his eighth goal of the season while Francis Meyer tallied the third score of his career in the win.
  • Logan Falzarano tallied an assist in the winning effort.
  • Drew Valsamedis played the full 90 minutes in goal for JHU, making four saves.
  • The Blue Jays put seven of their 18 shots on target and earned six corners.
  • Max Edelstein was tagged with a yellow card in the 86th minute.

  • The Sea Gulls travel to La Plume, Pa. to face Keystone College on Saturday.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
