Women's Soccer drops contest against Mary Washington, 1-0

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -  The Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped its Saturday afternoon matchup against the Mary Washington Eagles by a 1-0 final at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury recorded the first shot in the contest as Alex Jankowski forced a save from the Mary Washington goalkeeper, Sydney Alexander, in the ninth minute.
  • The Eagles took their shot in the 24th minute when Reagan Boyer attempted to get one by Riley Pinato, who recorded the save.
  • Mary Washington scored the lone goal in the 62nd minute courtesy of a penalty kick goal. Madison Bauserman stepped up to the penalty spot and sent the attempt past Pinato to give the Eagles the advantage, 1-0.
  • The Eagles ended Salisbury's shutout streak as the Sea Gulls allowed their first goal in nearly a month.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Alex Jankowski had a team-high two shots, placing both of them on goal.
  • Riley Pinato played all 90 minutes in goal, recording three saves in a losing effort.
  • The Sea Gulls recorded five corner kicks to Mary Washington's four.
MARY WASHINGTON GAME NOTES
  • Madison Bauserman scored her second goal of the season, the fifth of her career.
  • Sydney Alexander played the entire first half, recording three saves. Morgan Hicok was in goal for the second half, making one save.
  • The Eagles outshot Salisbury eight to six.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls return home to begin the final week of the regular season as they host St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
  • Kickoff is at 3 p.m. at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.
  • The Game will serve as Salisbury's Hidden Opponent – Mental Health Awareness Game.
