Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer stonewalls St. Mary’s (Md.), 2-0

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team emerged victorious over the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks on Wednesday afternoon as Alexandra Gagliardi scored her first career goal off an assist by Lauren Spelman while Alex Jankowski provided a cushion for the Sea Gulls in the 2-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The offenses of both teams were slow to start the contest as the first shot was not recorded until the seventh minute when Zakiyyah McMillan took a shot that missed wide left of the goal.
  • The Sea Gulls controlled the next 20 minutes, finally breaking through in the 29th minute when Lauren Spelman played a corner kick in that Alexandra Gagliardi got behind, heading it past Kylie Wells to put Salisbury in front, 1-0.
  • Salisbury continued to pepper St. Mary's in the second half. Alex Jankowski eventually extended the lead for the Sea Gulls in the 76th minute when Piya Singh, who entered in goal for the Seahawks in the second half, could not cleanly save the shot.
  • Freshman midfielder Katie Lennon made her first collegiate start at goalkeeper on Wednesday afternoon. She was aided by a dominant defensive performance as the Seahawks mustered just one shot on the Sea Gull back line in the afternoon.
