Women's Soccer drops Senior Day scuffle with CNU, 4-0

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped its Senior Day showdown against the Christopher Newport Captains on Saturday afternoon, 4-0 at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex. The team recognized its seniors, Lauren Spelman, Alexandra Gagliardi, and Amanda Commodari prior to the day's contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Captains controlled the contest from beginning to end. Christopher Newport took the lead nine minutes into the contest when Hannah Heaton drilled a shot towards the goal, causing it to ricochet off a Sea Gull defender and out of reach of Riley Pinato.
  • The Captains extended their lead to two in the 20th minute when Ellie Cox headed the ball into the upper part of the goal thanks to the assist from Hanna Heaton.
  • Nine minutes after that, Christopher Newport added a third goal as Natalie Swarm moved the ball with pace into the box following an assist by Sarah Smith, launching a missile past Pinato. The Sea Gulls were kept at bay for the rest of the first half.
  • The fourth goal came in the 53rd minute as Heather Heaton fed the ball to Emma Ricci who sent a shot just high of Pinato. The Captains contained Salisbury for the rest of the contest and held the bulk of possession.
