The Rundown

The sixth-ranked and second-seeded Salisbury University field hockey team begins its pursuit of a fifth consecutive conference title in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament. The Sea Gulls will host third-seeded Mary Washington in the C2C semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. inside Sea Gull Stadium.

  • Salisbury went 12-3 in the regular season and 1-1 in league play. The Sea Gulls defeated Mary Washington 2-0 on the road on Oct. 14 before dropping a 3-1 decision at Christopher Newport on Oct. 18.
  • The Sea Gulls have recorded shutouts in 10 of their 12 victories this season, and only one of SU's three losses on the year have come in regulation.
  • Salisbury saw two players collect major C2C postseason awards. Marli McDorman became the second straight Sea Gull to capture C2C Rookie of the Year, while Christine Goetz was named C2C Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
  • Joining McDorman and Goetz on the All-C2C First Team are Mack Dinopoulos, Isabel Larrabee, Alayna Gigliotti, and McKenna Horner.
  • Mary Washington enters the C2C semifinals with a 10-8 record. The Eagles went 0-2 in league play with losses to Salisbury (2-0, Oct. 14) and CNU (4-2, Oct. 28).
  • The Eagles placed three players on the All-C2C First Team: forward Emma Bernard, midfielder Lauren Boucher, and defender Katie Royle.
  • Forward Grayson Scott leads the C2C with 14 goals and is tied for the league lead with 31 points. Bernard has dished out eight assists and slots third in the conference in that category.
  • Wednesday's matchup will be the 40th all-time meeting between the two league rivals. Salisbury holds a 36-3 advantage in the series.
  • The Sea Gulls have won 10 straight matchups against the Eagles dating back to 2015, outscoring UMW 44-2 over that span.
  • Mary Washington last defeated SU on Oct. 24, 2015, taking a 2-1 decision in Fredericksburg. Salisbury got its revenge in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC, now C2C) championship game on Nov. 7, besting the Eagles 2-1 in overtime.
  • The Eagles have only beaten Salisbury at home once, by a 3-2 margin on Oct. 13, 2012.
