Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer falls to Christopher Newport, 3-0

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team could not get the offense rolling as the Christopher Newport Captains controlled the contest, defeating the Sea Gulls 3-0 Saturday evening at Captains Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both squads were slow to start the contest, but just over seven minutes in CNU found success. Mason Field took the first shot of the game, forcing a save by Skyler McCarthy, but the Captains maintained possession and Drew McWhinney scored the first goal of the evening thanks to an assist by Barry Jones.
  • The rest of the first half saw the Sea Gulls and Captains go back and forth, but neither team could get another shot across the line.
  • Not comfortable with their 1-0 lead, the Captains came out of halftime looking for more. Five minutes into the second half CNU took a 2-0 lead after Jonathon Leiding's goal, with Barry Jones recording his second assist of the night.
  • In the 65th minute the Captains extended their lead once more as Caleb Jones scored off of an assist by Manzi Siibo, bringing CNU's lead up to 3-0.
  • David Peters and Brady Young attempted to get the Sea Gulls on the board but to no avail as the Captains defense stood strong and shut Salisbury out.
