Men’s Basketball tops Gallaudet to open road trip, 82-59

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team opened its three-game road stint in impressive fashion, earning an 82-59 victory over the Gallaudet University Bison at the Field House on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Early baskets from Reed Rebstock and Calvin Thomas helped Salisbury score the first five points of the night, while a three-ball from Cameron Heard less than two minutes later handed SU an 8-3 advantage at the 17:39 mark. Gallaudet responded with a 7-1 stretch spanning just under two minutes to take a 10-9 lead.
  • The Sea Gulls needed only a beat to answer back, embarking on a 10-0 run that saw five different players score to put SU back in front, 19-10. Gallaudet outpaced Salisbury 12-2 over the next three minutes to snatch the lead once more, 22-21.
  • Salisbury narrowly outscored the hosts 10-8 over the next four minutes. Rebstock and Patrick Wynne each hit timely three-pointers in the final two minutes to help SU close the half on a 9-2 run and lead 40-32 at the break.
  • Unlike the opening period, neither side was able to string together a sustained run to start the second half. The Bison outscored the Sea Gulls by a slim 11-10 margin in the first eight minutes of the period to set the score at 50-43.
  • Jordan Oates staked his claim on the next four and a half minutes of action, scoring nine points to help Salisbury set out on the first significant run of the period, 16-8, that extended the advantage to 66-51 with just under seven minutes to go.
  • The Sea Gulls kept the pedal down in the waning minutes, closing the contest on an 18-8 run to seal the 82-59 victory.
