Women's Basketball falls to Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team was upended by the hosts 65-50 Saturday afternoon at the Misericordia Tournament in the Anderson Sports-Health Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury opened up scoring in the contest when Nicole Miller scored a fastbreak layup after a steal by Alex Bull. Misericordia answered identically when a minute later Chloe Captoni scored a fastbreak layup after coming away with a steal.
  • After a back and forth first quarter, the second quarter saw the Sea Gulls use a momentum shift to take the lead. Over a five-minute span, Salisbury went on an 8-0 run to make the score 24-18. The Sea Gulls had five different scorers during the second quarter run.
  • The last points of the first half were scored by Bull, which gave the Sea Gulls a 28-27 lead into the break.
  • Salisbury's shooting struggled in the third quarter, which gave the Cougars the opportunity to build a 15-point lead.
  • The fourth quarter resembled the first half as both teams were trading shots. The Sea Gull offense was bolstered by Hailey Ader, Abby Plaugher, and Tori Rumbaugh. The three of them combined for 12 points in the quarter.
 
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Tori Rumbaugh led the Sea Gulls with nine points. She added three rebounds and three assists as well.
  • Jen Juhring added eight points while going 3-of-6 from the floor and a perfect 2-of-2 at the charity stripe. She additionally had a rebound and an assist.
  • Kayla Nieberlein and Sym Deloatch tied for the team lead with six rebounds each. Nieberlein added four points and Deloatch added six points and two assists.
  • The Sea Gulls shots 18-of-70 from the field, 2-of-23 from beyond the arc, and 12-of-19 at the free throw line.
 
MISERICORDIA GAME NOTES
  • Alyssa Bondi and Chloe Captoni tied for the team lead with 13 points. Bondi finished out with six rebounds and four assists while Captoni ended with four rebounds and four assists.
  • Jocelyn Grosch and Caitlin Landgraf each finished with eight rebounds. Grosch additionally provided 12 points and two assists while Landgraf contributed eight points.
  • Skylar Downing was close to a triple-double as she finished with seven points, seven rebounds, and 10 assists.
  • The Cougars shot 27-of-62 from the field, 9-of-23 from three-point land, and 2-of-3 from the free throw line.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls return home next week when they host Gallaudet on Wednesday, Dec 6.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Maggs Physical Activities Center.
