Men’s Basketball handles Lancaster Bible, 78-72

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team secured its second consecutive victory, earning a 78-72 road victory over the Lancaster Bible College Chargers on Wednesday evening at Horst Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just over a minute into the contest, Cameron Heard got the scoring started for the Sea Gulls, sinking a floater to net the first points of the contest for either side. His basket helped Salisbury pen a 6-2 opening statement through five and a half minutes.
  • The Chargers netted eight of the next 12 powered by an early surge from Grant Sareyka, who scored six points across the next two and a half minutes to help Lancaster Bible tie the contest at 10. A quick five points from Jordan Oates helped SU dial up a 10-4 run, taking a 20-14 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the half.
  • Again, the Chargers found an answer. LBC scored 11 of the following 13 points to snag the advantage, 25-22. Salisbury swung back with a 6-2 run before the hosts cashed in a pair of buckets to take a four-point advantage, 32-28, with less than four minutes left in the period.
  • The maroon and gold shone in the final stretch of the first half, closing the final 3:29 on a crisp 8-0 run to carry a 36-32 lead into the locker room.
  • The Sea Gulls wasted no time after the break, taking 10 of the first 12 in the second half to lead 46-34. Including their run to close the opening half, Salisbury scored 18 of 20 points spanning nearly five and a half minutes to swing the contest in their favor.
  • The Chargers established an 8-0 run to carve away at the margin, bringing the gap within four with 15 minutes remaining. Reed Rebstock caught fire then, nailing two threes and a layup to singlehandedly power the Sea Gulls to an 8-2 swing and to return the gap to double digits, 54-44.
  • Each side battled over the next five minutes, with Lancaster Bible narrowly outscoring Salisbury 10-9 to set the score at 63-54. Both offenses went silent for the next two minutes before Oates sank a layup with 5:35 to go to end the drought.
  • Lancaster Bible challenged the Sea Gulls late, but SU passed the test, preventing the Chargers from coming within four points in the final five minutes to secure the 78-72 victory.

  • Jordan Oates continued his role as a walking double-double, totaling 21 points and tying his career-high with 19 rebounds in the win while adding a pair of blocks. Wednesday marked the sixth double-double of the season for Oates and the 23rd of his career in 61 career games.
