Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Four reach double-digits on Senior Day against No. 3 CNU

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball fell to the third-ranked Christopher Newport Captains, 85-73, in the 2023 home finale on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams jockeyed for an advantage in the opening minutes of the game. A jumper by Jahn Hines at the 15:54 mark capped a 6-0 run for CNU to go up 13-6.
  • A layup and a free throw from Jake Latta put the Captains up 12, 22-10 with 12:31 left in the first half.
  • Salisbury battled back after a layup and four straight free throws by Sean Carr cut the lead down to six, 22-16, with just under 10 minutes left on the clock.
  • Consecutive three-point jump shots by CNU on the next two possessions put the Captains back up 12.
  • Brendan Davis answered after he drew a foul on a tough layup and converted the three-point play to bring the lead back down to single digits, 28-19, with 8:33 remaining in the period.
  • CNU jumped back out to a 13-point lead a few minutes later, but back-to-back layups by Brandon Craig brought the lead back down to nine, 36-27, with just over three minutes left in the half.
  • Following a triple by Davis at the two-minute mark, CNU closed out the half on a 7-2 run to send the teams into halftime with a score of 50-34.
  • Both teams traded shots and possession for the first 10 minutes of the second half. Greg Bloodsworth capped an 8-0 run by the Sea Gulls after a tough jumper at the 9:51 mark to bring the lead down to eight, 62-54.
  • A few possessions later, the Captains answered with a 9-2 run to make it 79-61, CNU's largest lead of the day, with just under five minutes left to play.
  • The Sea Gulls closed out the game on a 10-5 run but the lead was too much to overcome and the game finished with a final score of 85-73.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES CNU GAME NOTES
  • CNU shot 52.5 percent (31-for-59) from the field, including 40 percent (10-for-25) from beyond the arc.
  • Ty Henderson led the Captains with 17 points and six assists.
  • Matthew Brodie and Jahn Hines each scored 13 points.
  • Trey Barber scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury concludes the regular season on the road against Mary Washington on Saturday, Feb. 18.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
