No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse upset in road matchup with No. 7 Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa.  – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team fell in a back-and-forth top-10 battle at No. 7 Gettysburg, 12-10, on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bullets opened the game strong on offense with two goals by Aidan Wykoff and Jack Dunleavy to give Gettysburg an early 2-0 lead in the first two and half minutes of the contest.
  • A few minutes later, the Sea Gulls reduced the deficit to 2-1 on long-range shot off the stick of Cross Ferrara.
  • After another Bullets goal, the Sea Gulls answered with another Ferrara goal to make the score 3-2, at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Bullets added a goal to open the second quarter. But, after a Gettysburg unreleasable penalty, the Sea Gulls scored two man-up goals from Luke Nestor and Jack Dowd to tie the game at four.
  • Gettysburg regained the lead with another two-goal run with goals from Ethan Kessler and Kyle Howard
  • The back-and-forth game continued, as the Sea Gulls answered the small Bullets run with a two-goal run of their own. Brice Bromwell scored back-to-back goals for the Sea Gulls to tie the score at six at the half
  • After an early Gettysburg goal in the second half, the Sea Gulls man-up unit got on the board for the third time in the game. Jude Brown found an open Nestor, who sent home his second goal of the game to tie the game at seven midway through the third.
  • In the final two minutes of the third quarter, the Sea Gulls took their first lead of the game. Bromwell and Nestor each scored their third goal of the game to give the Sea Gulls a 9-7 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
  • The Bullets opened the fourth with a goal by Kieran Ward to reduce the Sea Gulls' lead to one. A few minutes later the Sea Gulls answered with Ferrara's third goal of the day to push the lead back to two, 12-10, with nine minutes remaining.
  • Gettysburg responded with a four-goal run, highlighted by three-straight Dunleavy goals to overtake Salisbury and take the upset bid.

  • Jack Dunleavy led the Bullets with seven points on six goals and an assist.
  • George Raymond and Kieran Ward each tallied three points for the Bullets.
  • The Bullets went 14-of-25 in faceoffs. Johnathan Moshe went 14-of-25 in faceoffs with a game-high six ground balls
  • Andy Marquet and Declan Harrigan led the Bullet defense with two caused turnovers each.
  • Chase Morgan started in net and recorded the win with 11 saves.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will travel to Lynchburg, Va. to take on the ninth-ranked Lynchburg Hornets.  
  • Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
