Brown’s golden-goal caps No. 6 Men’s Lacrosse’s comeback over No. 8 Lynchburg, 16-15

LYNCHBURG, Va.  – Late heroics by Isaac Thrasher and Jude Brown capped off the sixth-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team's second-half comeback to score a big road win in overtime, 16-15, over the eighth-ranked Lynchburg Hornets on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hornets got off to a strong start with a Dylan Wolfe goal in the first two minutes of the game.
  • The Sea Gull offense responded a few minutes later with goals by Jude Brown and Isaac Thrasher to take a 2-1 lead late in the first.
  • Lynchburg regained the lead, 3-2, in the closing stages of the first quarter before the team extended its lead in the early portions of the second quarter with a four-goal run, highlighted by back-to-back goals by Riley Mitchell to take a 4-2 lead.
  • The Sea Gulls broke the run with Brown's second goal of the game. After another Hornet goal, Josh Sanchez tallied a goal to reduce the Lynchburg lead to 6-4 midway through the second.
  • The Lynchburg offense answered the Sanchez goal with a 3-0 run before Luke Nestor scored back-to-back goals to reduce the deficit to 9-6. Wolfe then scored right before the first-half buzzer to allow Lynchburg to take the 10-6 lead at the half.
  • After another Hornet goal to start the second half, the Sea Gull offense started to wake back up with a 4-1 run, started by a Bromwell goal and ended with another Brown goal to cut the lead to 12-10 halfway through the third quarter.
  • A goal by the Hornets pushed their lead back to three at the start of the fourth, but a three-goal run, led by two Thrasher goals tied the game at 13 with just under six minutes remaining in the game.
  • The Hornets used a costly minute-long non-releasable penalty by the Sea Gulls to score two straight man-up goals by Wolfe to give the Hornets a 15-13 lead with 3:54 remaining in the fourth.
  • Like they had been all game, the Sea Gulls would just not go away. Cross Ferrara scored a goal with just under two minutes remaining in regulation that reduced the deficit to one. With 38 seconds remaining in the fourth, a loose ball in front of the cage found Thrasher, who scored the game-tying goal to push the game into overtime.
  • After a big faceoff win by Mackenzie Moreland to open overtime the Sea Gulls went on the attack. Dowd sent a shot that the Hornets goalkeeper made a save on, but Brown scooped up the ground ball and sent a quick shot into the back of the net to give the Sea Gulls the come-from-behind win.
