Men’s Basketball stumbles against Mary Washington

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team fell to the Mary Washington Eagles, 64-53, in a midweek Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) matchup at Maggs PAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mary Washington started the game with an 8-0 run before Brandon Craig put the Sea Gulls on the board with two free throws at the 15:28 mark.
  • Salisbury battled back to within three, 11-8, after Greg Bloodsworth added a apair free throws with 13:10 left in the first half.
  • A 6-0 run by the Eagles extended their lead to 18-8 with under eight minutes to play in the first half.
  • A triple from Ryan Marshall sparked an 8-1 run to bring the Sea Gulls within three, 19-16, with 4:32 left in the first half.
  • Mary Washington scored a basket on its next four possessions to jump back out to a 10-point lead, 29-19, with just over two minutes left in the first.
  • Both teams added a few more baskets in the closing minutes of the half to send the teams into halftime with a score of 33-25.
  • An Andrew Silver three-point jumper capped an 8-2 run for Salisbury to cut the lead down to three, 43-40, with 13:17 left to play.
  • Mary Washington used a 7-0 run to go back up 10 points, 50-40, with nine minutes remaining.
  • Both teams went back-and-forth for the next several minutes, but the lead was too much for the Sea Gulls to overcome and the game finished with a final score of 64-53.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury shot 37.8 percent (17-for-45) from the field and 44.4 percent (8-for-18) from three-point range.
  • Brandon Craig led the Sea Gulls with 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting. He also grabbed eight rebounds and recorded a block.
  • Greg Bloodsworth scored 12 points.
  • Jordan Oates scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.
MARY WASHINGTON GAME NOTES
  • Mary Washington shot 44.4 percent (24-for-54) from the field, including 25 percent (5-for-20) from three-point range.
  • Greg Rowson scored a game-high 21 points on 8-for-16 shooting. He also hauled in eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
  • Da'Shawn Cook added 13 points.
  • Zack Blue scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will celebrate its five graduating seniors on Saturday, Feb. 11 in the second game of the S doubleheader against C2C rival, No. 3 Christopher Newport.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 4 p.m. following the conclusion of the women's game.
