Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Potent offense helps No. 5 Men’s Lacrosse slay No. 14 Cortland Red Dragons, 20-12

SALISBURY, Md.  – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team used a strong offensive effort to defeat the 14th-ranked Cortland Red Dragons, 20-12, on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After five minutes of back-and-forth play, the Sea Gull offense had a great opportunity to get on the board after a Red Dragon penalty. Jude Brown found an open Jack Dowd, who ripped the shot into the back of the net for the opening goal.
  • The Red Dragons answered the early Sea Gulls goal with two goals from Jason Chiodo and Dante Yacavone to give Cortland a 2-1 lead.
  • The Sea Gulls then woke up with a 3-0 run to end the first quarter that was capped off by a Brice Bromwell goal to make it 4-2 SU.
  • The Sea Gulls continued the momentum into the second quarter with another three-goal run that was led by a man-up goal from Dowd, from Brown to put the Sea Gulls up 7-2.
  • After a three-minute non-releasable penalty by the Sea Gulls, the Red Dragons took advantage with a two-goal run that was finished off by a Tyler Starrett goal to reduce the Sea Gulls lead to 7-5.
  • Even with a man-down situation, the Sea Gulls still went on the attack. After a scramble near the sideline, Brown sent a no-look over-the-shoulder pass to the middle of the field. Braden Glushakow rose up, caught the loose ball and put the ball into the back of the net to push the Sea Gulls back up by four.
  • The Sea Gulls and Red Dragons would then trade goals with Luke Nestor and Joe Carozza scoring for the Sea Gulls. Before the end of the half, Bromwell added his fourth goal of the game from Brown to give SU a 11-6 lead at the break.
  • The Red Dragons opened the second half strong on offense with a goal from Kole Stover to reduce the deficit to four.
  • The Sea Gulls answered right back just 20 seconds later with a Blake Malamphy goal to put Salisbury back up by five at 12-7.
  • After a Cortland goal, the Sea Gulls went back to work on offense. The Sea Gulls added three more goals finished off by a man-up goal by Cross Ferrara to put the Sea Gulls up 15-8.
  • The Red Dragons would not go away, though, stringing together a two-goal run that ended with a Jason Chiodo goal to make the score 15-10 headed into the final quarter.
  • The Sea Gulls opened the fourth with a 3-1 run that started with an Isaac Thrasher goal from Brown and ended with Dowd's fourth goal of the game.
  • Cortland added another goal from Dante Yacavone, but two more Sea Gulls goals from Bromwell and Ferrara closed out the 20-12 Salisbury win.
