No. 4 Men’s Lacrosse dominates Montclair St. in CLC Opener, 27-7

MONTCLAIR, N.J.  – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team cruised in its Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC) debut with a 27-6 victory over the Montclair St. Red Hawks on Tuesday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a slow first couple minutes, the Sea Gulls started a three-goal run with a Cross Ferrara goal to open the scoring and the run was finished by a Jude Brown goal from Brice Bromwell to give the Sea Gulls an early lead.
  • The Red Hawks got on the board with three minutes remaining in the first quarter with a goal by Mike McCreery from Carter Finnen to reduce the Sea Gull lead to two.
  • The Sea Gull offense responded with two more goals that closed out the first quarter. Josh Sanchez scored as time expired to give the Sea Gulls a 5-1 lead.
  • The Red Hawks opened the second quarter strong on the offensive end with a goal from Ethan Mounier to make the score, 5-2.
  • The Sea Gulls once again responded with two more goals with another Sanchez goal and the second goal of the day from Luke Nestor pushed the Sea Gulls lead to five, 7-2.
  • After another Red Hawk goal, the Sea Gull offense exploded for a seven-goal run to end the half. Ferrara led the run with three goals and an assist and Brown added two goals and an assist to give Salisbury a 14-3 lead at the break.
  • The Sea Gulls continued the momentum into the third with a six-goal run that was capped off by a Josh Rotman goal from Joe Carozza to extend the lead, 20-3.
  • The Red Hawks added a goal from Ethan Mounier, but the Sea Gulls would add two more goals from Bromwell and Riley Strub to push the lead to 22-4.
  • The Red Hawks offense opened the final quarter strong with two goals from Joe Covino.
  • The Sea Gull offense once again went on another run with five more goals that were capped off by Robby Donnelly's second goal that gave the Sea Gulls a 27-6 lead.
  • The Red Hawks would add one more goal from Ryan Vierbuchen to push the final score to 27-7.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Cross Ferrara and Jude Brown led the Sea Gulls with six points each. Ferrara finished with four goals and two assists and Brown finished with a hat trick and dished out three assists.
  • Ferrara now sits just five points away from 400 career points.
  • Brown eclipsed the 300-career point mark in his career in the win. He tallied 252 points in his four-year career at St. Mary's.
  • Brice Bromwell and Josh Sanchez each scored a hat trick and added an assist.
  • Joe Carozza added two goals and tallied an assist.
  • The Sea Gulls offense had 14 different goal scorers in the game.
  • The Sea Gulls finished 22-of-36 in faceoffs. Mackenzie Moreland finished the game 10-of-15 at the X with five ground balls. Blake Malamphy added in nine faceoff wins with six ground balls and added a goal.
  • Thomas Ballard led the Sea Gull defense with a caused turnover and scooped up three ground balls.
  • Nicholas Ransom earned the win in net and recorded six saves. Jack Twomey earned time in net with a save. Z.J. Shahin, Matty Back and Michael Clibanoff also were featured in the cage for the Sea Gulls. 
MONTCLAIR ST. GAME NOTES
  • Joe Covino led the Red Hawks with four points on two goals and two assists.
  • Ethan Mounier added in a hat-trick.
  • The Red Hawks went 14-of-36 in faceoffs. Lucas Novack finished the game 7-of-19 in faceoffs with 6 ground balls. Luke Ceneri added in four faceoff wins.  
  • Logan Lamarca and Jack Greco led the Red Hawks defense with a caused turnover each
  • David Metzger started the game in net for Montclair St. and recorded 9 saves.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will travel to Owings Mills, Md. to face 17th-ranked Stevenson on Saturday, March 25.
  • Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
