Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Berkman wins 600th at SU as No. 2 Men’s Lacrosse wins “War on the Shore” over Washington, 23-9

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The 55th edition of the "War on the Shore" between Salisbury University and Washington College was a special one as head coach Jim Berkman earned his 600th win on the sidelines at SU with a commanding 23-9 win over the Shoremen on Saturday to collect the Charles B. Clark Cup for the eighth straight matchup between the two Eastern Shore rivals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cross Ferrara got the Sea Gulls on the board in the opening minute of the game. Jude Brown facilitated the next two Sea Gull goals with Isaac Thrasher and Riley Strub finding the back of the net to push the lead to 3-0 in the first four minutes of the game.
  • After Mac Hale scored at the 10:36 mark of the first, Salisbury went on a three-goal run to close out the first quarter with goals by Jack Dowd, Luke Nestor and Josh Sanchez to take a 6-1 lead at the end of the opening frame.
  • Nestor was sandwiched by two Washington goals to start the second quarter before Ferrara and Thrasher fueled a 4-0 run to push the SU lead to 11-3 at the half.
  • A Salisbury penalty in the early goings of the second half led to a man-up goal for Washington College before SU went on another four-goal run in the middle goings of the third quarter, highlighted by back-to-back goals by Joe Carozza to extend the lead to 15-4.
  • Washington made it a 10-goal game after a Tom Merritt goal but Salisbury responded with back-to-back goals 40 seconds apart by Ty Keaton and Carozza. Nestor put away a goal with eight seconds left in the third to give Salisbury the 18-6 lead.
  • The Sea Gulls' third four-goal run of the game kept the Shoreman at bay at the start of the fourth quarter. Carozza scored back-to-back man-up goals during a non-releasable penalty followed by goals by Kellen Smaw and Brady Mancha.
  • Matthew Clibanoff closed out the scoring for Salisbury with just under four minutes to go in the game off an assist by Robby Donnelly to help seal the rivalry win.
