No. 2 Men’s Lacrosse cruises to 18-6 win over Catholic

SALISBURY, Md.  – The second-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team rolled in its final home game of the 2023 regular season with an 18-6 win over the Catholic Cardinals on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury opened the game with three goals in the first five minutes. Two Brice Bromwell tallies with a pole goal by John DeFazio gave the Sea Gulls the early lead.
  • The offense continued to roll in the first quarter with goals by Luke Nestor, Jack Dowd and Cross Ferrara pushing the lead to 6-0.
  • The Cardinals got on the board with a goal from Luke D'Ambrogi to reduce the Sea Gulls' lead to five at the end of the first.
  • The two teams traded goals in the second quarter with Ferrara and Nestor scoring twice in the frame to extend the Salisbury lead to 10-4.
  • The Sea Gulls dominated the third quarter with a six-goal run. The run was highlighted by a man-up goal from Jude Brown by Joe Carozza that helped the Sea Gulls extend the lead to 15-4 entering the final quarter.
  • Salisbury continued the momentum into the fourth with a two-goal run that was finished by a Brown goal from Riley Strub to push the lead to 17-4.
  • After a Cardinals goal, the Sea Gulls put one more tally on the board with a Joey Corbett goal from Bishop Barnes to give the Sea Gulls a 13-goal lead again.
  • The Cardinals added one more goal from Danny Fitzgibbons with five minutes remaining to put the final score at 18-6.

CATHOLIC GAME NOTES
  • Mike Mulligan led the Cardinal offense with two goals and an assist.
  • Luke D'Ambrogi added two goals.
  • Catholic went 11-of-26 in faceoffs. Cooper DiCicco finished 10-of-24 at the X with six ground balls.
  • Mike Tayloe led the Cardinal defense with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
  • Nic Pezone started in net for the Cardinals and recorded 12 saves. Colin McDonnell earned time in net and made five saves.
 
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury travels to Fredericksburg, Va. on Saturday, April 29 for the final game of the regular season against Coastal Lacrosse Conference rival, Mary Washington.   
Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
