Windsor receives NFCA National Player of the Year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Salisbury University senior pitcher/outfielder Lindsey Windsor was honored on Friday as the 2023 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Tucci Division III National Player of the Year for her standout 2023 season.

She is the first player in Salisbury softball history to earn the NFCA National Player of the Year award since the award began in 2016.

Windsor, from Union Bridge, Md., was one of the key components both in the circle and at the plate in the Sea Gulls' run as national runners-up at the NCAA Championships.
In the circle, the three-time Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Pitcher of the Year had an 18-2 record with a 1.14 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 12 complete games, four shutouts and three saves in 34 appearances. She allowed just 24 earned runs and 40 walks across 147 innings and struck out 122 batters while limiting opponents to a .194 average. She and Nicole Ortega threw a combined no-hitter on April 14 against Cabrini.

Her 1.14 ERA ranked 19th in the country. She also ranked in the top 50 in the nation in saves, WHIP, appearances, games started, hits allowed per nine innings (4.86) and pitching victories.

In the batter's box, Windsor was just as effective. She batted 396 with 50 runs, 65 hits, nine doubles, five triples, nine home runs and 55 RBI in 53 contests. She slugged .677 with a .444 on-base percentage to total a 1.121 OPS and stole 15 bases in 16 attempts.

During the season, Windsor reached base in 46 of the 53 games she batted in and collected at least a hit in 40 of those contests with 19 multi-hit games.

In the nation, Windsor ranked ninth in RBIs, 10th in total bases (111), 28th in hits, 40th in home runs and 48th in triples.

Along with her third consecutive C2C Pitcher of the Year award and All-C2C First Team honor, Windsor also earned her second NFCA All-Region and All-American First Team selection following the regular season.

The TUCCI/NFCA Player of the Year award was created in 2016 to honor outstanding softball achievements in NCAA Division III. In 2019, the Association expanded the award to include separate Player and Pitcher of the Year honors.

The awards are voted on by the members of the NFCA Division III All-America Committee with one head coach representing each of the 10 NCAA regions. To be eligible, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member.

Salisbury finished the 2023 season as national runners-up with a program record 49-6 mark on the year.
