ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team scored two goals in the final 30 minutes, including a go-ahead wonder strike from
Ryan Tursellino, to clinch a come-from-behind victory over the Greensboro Pride, winning its season opener 2-1 on Friday evening at JLR Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sea Gulls bombarded the Greensboro backline early, putting four shots on goal in the first 20 minutes and forcing Pride goalie Sofia Pagnamenta to make three saves.
- After Autumn Conway picked up a yellow card in the 21st minute, the SU barrage continued with six more unanswered shots on goal before Riley Pinato finally made a save on a Sophia Iorio attempted in the 33rd minute.
- The Pride found the back of the net just after halftime on only their second shot of the game as Amery Skinner snuck it by Pinato in the 48th minute, putting GC on top 1-0.
- Salisbury responded with a quick succession of five shots, and Ava Wheeler finally broke through in the 60th minute by juking past the goalie and chipping home the tying goal that made it 1-1.
- The stalemate remained until the 79th minute when Alex Jankowski fed Ryan Tursellino for an absurd 30-yard strike that tucked inside the left post, putting the Sea Gulls emphatically on top 2-1.
- The SU defense held stout from there, denying the Pride a shot over the final 10 minutes and salting away the 2-1 victory.
