Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second-half push forces 3-3 tie with Randolph-Macon

SALISBURY, Md. – Autumn Conway's equalizer with seven minutes left in regulation helped the Salisbury University women's soccer team force a 3-3 draw with the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets on Sunday in the concluding game of the Salisbury University Classic.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It took both offenses a few minutes to get any offense generated, but it was Autumn Conway who took the first shot of the contest five minutes in as her header went just left of the goal.
  • After being pressured by the Sea Gulls in their own defensive end, Randolph-Macon took the opportunity to counterattack. Driving down the field, Riley Russ played a through ball to Lauren Brokaw who cut back into the middle of the field and ripped a left-footed shot that got past Riley Pinato as it was in the upper left corner to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead 16 minutes in.
  • After taking the lead, the Yellow Jackets controlled the rest of the half, including a second goal with nine minutes left in the half. Randolph-Macon utilized a corner to set up the offensive attempt as Lily Alexander played the ball in and Emily Smith managed to settle the ball before taking a shot that just got by the Sea Gulls.
  • Salisbury recollected themselves after halftime and established themselves in the contest. In the 56th minute, Ashley Pantano drove the ball to the left corner of the attacking end before pulling it back to her right foot and lofting a shot over Abby Cook into the far post to make it 2-1.
  • Responding to the Salisbury attack, Brokaw scored her second of the contest in the 59th minute with a shot that forced Pinato to jump up for the ball but was unable to cleanly save it, giving the Yellow Jackets a 3-1 lead.
  • Still using the momentum from scoring their first goal, the Sea Gulls put together a solid attack to make the game 3-2. Pantano played the ball into the middle from the left side of the field to Kristen Ging, who placed a shot to the left side of the goal to get it by a diving Cook just over an hour into the game.
  • The Sea Gulls pushed ahead for the next 20 minutes to overwhelm the Yellow Jackets, taking shot after shot at the goal. Then in the 83rd minute, Rebecca Fairbanks sent in a free kick to the box that Conway got her head on the end of and blasted it by Cook to tie the contest at three.
