Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer collects well-earned draw with No. 2 Messiah

SALISBURY, Md. – A goal by Brady Young and excellent defense sees the Salisbury University men's soccer team draw level with the second-ranked Messiah Falcons, 1-1, in a back-and-forth contest Saturday afternoon at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • While the opening 20 minutes had little action recorded, Messiah recorded the first offensive opportunity when Christian Cole took a shot from a free kick with Josh Wendel making the save.
  • After making some substitutions, Salisbury earned a free kick from 30 yards outside of the Messiah goal. The Sea Gulls executed a perfect set piece when Alex Floyd tapped the ball to Brady Young, who ripped a shot past a diving Adam Carter that put the Sea Gulls up one in the 28th minute.
  • The rest of the first half was a stalemate on the field with only two shots recorded. Josh Bratager took a shot for the Falcons and missed wide left while Ethan Dolezal's shot for the Sea Gulls missed wide right.
  • Much like most of the first half, the opening 15 minutes of the second half saw the two teams battling on the field. Messiah broke through and leveled the game in the 61st minute when Cole crossed the ball across the field to a wide-open Ben Lefever who powered a shot past Wendel.
  • For the final half hour of the contest both teams heavily used substitutions to try to break the tie, but neither team could find the back of the net with the last shot of the contest coming in the 86th minute when Matt McDonald's attempt was saved by Wendel.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Josh Wendel recorded three saves in net.
  • Brady Young scored his fourth goal of the season. It was the eighth tally of his career.

  • The Falcons recorded four corner kicks to Salisbury's two.
