Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer stings Randolph-Macon, 2-1

ASHLAND, Va. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team picked up its first true road win of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets on Wednesday night at Nunnally Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Yellow Jackets put a pair of shots on target in the first 10 minutes, but Sea Gull keeper Josh Wendel denied both early chances.
  • Salisbury countered in the 13th minute as David Peters passed it to Gavin Miller in the flat, who danced around a defender into the left of the box and booted it into the low right corner of the net, giving the Sea Gulls a 1-0 advantage.
  • SU outshot Randolph-Macon 6-1 over the rest of the first half but couldn't get another past Zach Fontenot, and the match went into the break with the visitors up by the slimmest margin.
  • After nearly half an hour of deadlocked second-period action, the Sea Gulls finally broke through again in the 73rd minute. Ethan Dolezal took a perfect pass to the right side of the box and flicked it left to a wide-open Dale Gordon, who powered it into the left corner to double Salisbury's lead, 2-0.
  • Randolph-Macon got one back in the 83rd minute as Jake Hall set up Kodi Tannor for a goal to make it 2-1.
  • The Yellow Jackets failed to capitalize on a corner moments later, and the Sea Gulls controlled possession for the final seven minutes to salt away the 2-1 triumph.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Gavin Miller netted his second tally of the season, converting on one of his three shots on goal.
  • Dale Gordon found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career. He was also issued a yellow card in the 63rd minute.
  • David Peters and Ethan Dolezal picked up assists on Miller's and Gordon's goals, respectively.
  • Josh Wendell recorded three saves over all 90 minutes in a winning effort.
  • The Sea Gulls outshot R-MC 13-9 for the game and won the corner kick battle 11-5.
RANDOLPH-MACON GAME NOTES
  • Kodi Tannor netted the only Yellow Jacket goal of the contest, with Jake Hall recording the assist.
  • Zach Fontenot snatched four saves over 90 minutes on the short end of the box score.
