Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer nicked by VWU, 1-0

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped its midweek matinee against the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan by a 1-0 score on Wednesday afternoon at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls controlled the tempo of the opening period, collecting eight shots to VWU's two and earning four corners, but were unable to find a first-half score.
  • The Marlins found their footing in the second half, tallying 11 shots and four corners in the period.
  • Shyenne Diaz followed a solo sprint with the eventual game-winning goal in the 65th minute to put the visitors in front.
  • VWU played keep-away for the remainder of the half, limiting Salisbury to one shot following Diaz's goal.

  • Shyenne Diaz netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
  • Sam Crawford, Alaina Alston, and Emma Shuey each put one shot on goal in the win.
  • Rachel Quigley went the distance in goal, making three saves.
  • The Marlins placed five of their 13 shots on target and added six chances from the corner.

  • The Sea Gulls close the week at home, hosting the Spartans of York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Sept. 23.
