Late goal does in Women’s Soccer against York (Pa.)

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team endured an 82nd-minute strike from the York (Pa.) Spartans in a 1-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Spartans forced Salisbury keeper Hayle Foreman to make three saves in the first half, the latest coming in the 31st minute as Foreman stopped a Carissa Baugus attempt on the top left of the goal.
  • The Sea Gulls could manage only two shots in the first half, and the two teams went into the break scoreless.
  • Salisbury's best chance came in the 61st minute as Lauren Spelman served a corner kick into the box. YCP goalie Teresa Gonzalez deflected the ball to SU's Kristen Ging, whose shot toward the middle of the net was blocked by a Spartan defender.
  • York finally broke through with its own corner kick in the 82nd minute. Meg Kalthof sailed it toward the right side of the box, and Ashlynn Weger headed it into the top left corner of the net to give the Spartans the 1-0 advantage.
  • Katy Poltrack unleashed a pair of late shots to try and get the Sea Gulls even, but backup keeper Madison O'Brien made a great save on a free-kick attempt in the 84th minute, allowing YCP to successfully run out the clock.
