Women’s Basketball downed by No. 5 Christopher Newport

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team fell to the fifth-ranked Christopher Newport University Captains by an 86-39 final on Saturday evening at Maggs Physical Activities Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls got out to a hot start, unfurling a 9-2 run to help build a 13-6 lead through the opening four minutes. Christopher Newport responded with a 10-2 swing of their own, taking a one-point advantage, 16-15.
  • Each side found the basket in the quarter's final minute, with Nicole Miller connecting from range to counteract a Captains layup and tie the contest at 18 through 10 minutes.
  • A 9-0 run to begin the second period put CNU in front, 27-18. Sym Deloatch converted a lay-in from the paint to start a 7-0 Salisbury swing, cutting the deficit to two at 27-25.
  • The Captains closed the first half with seven consecutive points, taking a 34-25 lead into the half.
  • CNU began the third quarter with a 16-2 run and held the Sea Gulls to six points in the period, increasing the lead to 58-31 through 30 minutes.
  • Salisbury's Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) foes continued to score late en route to the 86-39 final.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Hailey Ader led the Sea Gull scorers with 10 points while adding five rebounds, two steals, and a block.
  • Alex Bull tallied seven points against the Captains.
  • Jen Juhring and Sym Deloatch tied for the team lead in rebounds with six apiece, while the pair combined for two assists and two steals as well.
  • Nicole Miller finished with a team-high four assists while adding five points and four rebounds.
  • Tori Rumbaugh and Hailey Ader each nabbed pairs of steals on the evening.
CNU GAME NOTES
  • Alivia Giles posted a game-high 17 points with four rebounds and two assists.
  • Camille Malagar totaled 14 points and tied with Hailey Kellogg for the team-high in steals (4).
  • Hannah Kaloi collected 11 points and led CNU with six rebounds.
  • Alexia Lindsey finished with seven points, four rebounds, two assists, and a pair of blocks.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls return to the floor on Wednesday, Jan. 17, welcoming Trinity Washington to Salisbury.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from Maggs Physical Activities Center.
